David Covington : Project 1

So here is a few sketches and pictures of ideas of what I have so far. I'm going to try and go for the dark and gloomy effect. For the cover I want to have Alice venturing into the dark woods. For the Chapters I'm going to pick an event and focus on that for the illustrations, I'm going to use a very limited color scheme of black and white and a few other muted colors with an occasional bright color to bring out the items importance. More to come

  1. I like your sketches and I think your ideas are great. If I were you I would really nail down a color scheme (or lack of color if you are going B&W). It just seems a little mixed on your mood board (some bright, others dark).

Once you have this I look forward to seeing your sketches, illustrations with color applied to them.

  2. I really like your idea to make it dark. I think if you're going to go with that concept, REALLY push it and make it super terrifying! Or at least experiment in that way.

  3. I like the idea of having one bright color in with all the moody colors but I think you should be careful not to just have random colors on each page, maybe develop those a little more clearly, which bright colors you are going to use.

  4. By having a muted color scheme & using a bright color for the object of importance in you illustration could create an interesting "charm" for each chapter. I'm not talking about "oh that's charming", but rather a literal charm...a collection of charms that depict the story. I'm curious to see how this comes together.

  5. It seems like you need to continue working with this idea and hone in on what mediums and methods you will be using... how are you planning on laying out the chapters? That will add to the mood.

  6. Your sketches are looking great. I like how the images are extending onto the next page. What medium are you going to use?

  7. I love the left side of your mood board. The color scheme sounds intriguing, its a nice step away from the light and cheery colors or the psychedelic thing. You have a few different styles on your mood board; photography, pen drawings, paintings. It would be interesting to see how you plan to combine these? or anchor the theme with one of these styles?
