Kindal Erickson

These are my illustrations using photoshop for the watercolor... hopefully there will be many more throughout the night but I put these on now just in case

okay this is not going as expected at all!:) Thanks Ari for helping me figure out how to get my scanned illustrations in!:) There are so many more illustrations that have been lacified but they need to be collaged with real lace and hopefully not look a thing like this cover or the spread, I am just excited I know how to get them on the computer now...more coming...

  2. I love your concept still. Its really going to turn out great.

I think that the cover looks good and is definitely a good way to go.

The issue I see is with the body text. It does not seem to fit the lace style either. Have you tried a serif? Sans-serif seems so casual in contrast with the lace which is more formal. Just a thought.

  3. so creative! how are you doing the lace part? i am excited to see the other illustrations that you come up with, how many are you going to do? (just curious but how much time does it take you to do one, it looks pretty complex) are you going to do a photo for each chapter spread?

  4. I'm really loving the cover, I think you should continue going down this track.
Another thing I like is that you are using the original illustrations, and making the fresh and new. Good Job!

  6. This is coming along well. I was curious how you were going to incorporate the lace in the illustrations, but I think you've found a great style of simplicity with such a complex textile like lace. It was a great idea to use the original images...it brings something that is recognizable, but the way you're stylizing the art brings something fresh to the look.
I don't understand the black cover illustration. I more drawn to the clean look of the page with the peacock feather & the whit space. Utilize the space, but again, the white space adds to the cleanliness of the the design in contrast to the complex texture in the illustration.

  7. I am really liking how you are weaving in the intricate design of the lace with the illustrations and it looks AWESOME! Just be careful with putting too much like images in the background and losing the cool illustrations. If you need more atmosphere like in the background try putting just different colors or more abstract images.

  9. mmmm yes! so lovely. i especially love that you're including peacock feathers. are you going to do that in every illustration? and are you going to leave the color in those or will the entire illustration be black and white?

i think you should be careful about what typeface you choose to set the body of the text in... my first instinct is a traditional type of sans-serif to complement the delicate lacy feel.. but that might turn out to be overkill. Look at Mrs Eaves and Cochin. those might work nicely.

  10. Its coming along nicely! I'm really excited to see how you handle the lace. I'll look around for some more at my house. The drawings look good, and the peacock feathers add great interest. Keep on moving girlie! How are you handling color? only in the peacock feathers? or lace? or? love the idea
